AU VET MEDICINE PROFESSOR NEW NATIONAL BOARD PRESIDENT

      AUBURN -- Philip Mansfield, an assistant professor of Small 
Animal Surgery and Medicine in Auburn UniversityÕs College of Veterinary 
Medicine, is the new president of the American Board of Veterinary 
Practitioners.
      Mansfield will lead the 400-member organization in furthering 
veterinary education among practitioners.
      ÒThe ABVP was established to certify veterinarians who 
demonstrate expertise in the broad range of clinical subjects relevant to 
practice,Ó he said. ÒIt has some resemblance to the American Board of 
Family Physicians in human medicine.Ó
      The Nashville, Tenn.-based ABVP certifies species-oriented 
specialists in eight practice categories -- avian, beef cattle, canine 
and feline, dairy, equine, feline, food animal and swine practice.
      Mansfield, who is certified in canine and feline practice, is the 
second AU faculty member to be president of ABVP.
