Sulzby Jr., Book Award from the Alabama Historical Association. Distinguished University Professor Wayne Flynt, a noted Southern historian, and Leah Atkins, director of AU's Center for the Arts and Humanities and adjunct professor of history, were honored for Alabama: History of a Deep South State. The book, co-authored by Flynt; Atkins; William Warren Rogers, a professor of history at Florida State University; and Robert David Warren, professor emeritus of history at Georgia Southern University, was also nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. The Alabama history textbook is the first comprehensive history of Alabama in more than 60 years and it has drawn praise for its insight and organization.
