The latest show of support brought to $130.75 million the total committed to Campaign Auburn: The Next Generation, which has a goal of $175 million. "Private support is more important than ever before because we must rely on our alumni and friends to help us enhance the quality of Auburn's programs even in good economic times," said AU President William V. Muse. "In uncertain times like these, private support is crucial." Muse said the campaign is on course to meet its goal by Dec. 31, 1996, but some of the toughest work lies ahead for campaign workers and volunteers. "Auburn is entering the most challenging phase of the campaign as we expand and intensify our efforts, " he said. "We will be calling on all who care about Auburn over the next year and a half to join in this effort to help Auburn rise to its potential. "This is the opportunity for people who have not given before to help Auburn and for past supporters to step up their support. Our success depends on the efforts of all." Since Campaign Auburn entered its public phase on Sept. 24, 1994, more than $21 million has been committed to Auburn by private sources. Another $109 million was raised during the leadership phase that began on Oct. 1, 1990. Funds are being sought to boost the universityÕs endowment, which provides a permanent source of support for scholarships, faculty development and programs to improve academic quality. Other goals include improvements to facilities and maintenance of ongoing programs and operations. Campaign Auburn has been boosted through regional campaigns in Birmingham; Atlanta; Columbus, Ga.; Montgomery; Auburn/Opelika; and the states of Florida and Texas. Faculty and staff are also conducting their own campaign, the "Auburn Family Campaign." # # # april95:ausupport
