Clifton/Sam Hendrix A-DAY, VET SCHOOL OPEN HOUSE AMONG A-DAY WEEKEND ACTIVITIES AUBURN -- Auburn University football fans anxious for a glimpse of the 1995 Tigers will have that chance during busy and fun-filled A-Day weekend, Friday and Saturday, April 28-29. The annual intrasquad game will be Saturday at 3 p.m. in Jordan-Hare Stadium. AU's Office of Special Programs will host its annual Tiger Picnic on Friday. The picnic, co-sponsored by the University Program Council, will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the front lawn of Foy Union. Live entertainment, free food and door prizes will be part of the festivities. Also on Friday, the award-winning country music duo of Brooks and Dunn will perform at 7:30 at the Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum, along with newcomers David Ball and The Tractors. Tickets are $20.50 and are available at the Foy Union desk, Coliseum Box Office, all Ticketlink outlets in Alabama or by calling 1-800-277-1700. The University of Mississippi baseball team also comes to the Plains for a weekend series with the AU Tigers. The Friday game at Plainsman Park will be at 7 p.m.; Saturday at 4 p.m.; and Sunday at 2 p.m. Parents' Weekend has also been scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Parents can attend Friday classes with students (after advance notification to professors) and a 6:15 p.m. welcome dinner with faculty at Foy Union. Tours will be offered both days. On Saturday at the Alumni Center, parents can participate in seminars at 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on career counseling, motivating students, financial aid and scholarships. They can also meet with a representative from their child's college or school from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. before the President's Luncheon on the lawn of the President's home at noon. The AU Theatre's production of "Betrayal" is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $7 for members of the Parents' Association and $8 for the general public. Saturday's activities include the University Program Council's 11 a.m. JazzFest with Maynard Ferguson, the Big Bop Nouveau Band, the AU Jazz Band and the AU Jammin' Gospel Choir performing at the Bibb-Graves Amphitheater. There will be an open house for the new eagle cage, starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Also on Saturday, AU's College of Veterinary Medicine will have its 18th annual Open House from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. All events are free. This annual tour of the grounds and facilities at the college will feature presentations by students from AU's Southeastern Raptor Rehabilitation Center, officials from the Birmingham Zoo and people who work with bomb and drug detection dogs. Youngsters may especially enjoy bringing their damaged stuffed animals in for repair at Teddy Bear Surgery. The open house also plans: a petting zoo and baby chicks; a magic show and a mime; art exhibits; pet tricks; Aubie, the Big Chicken and Happy the Hound; balloon animals; exhibits in thermomography, ultrasound, arthroscopy, aquaculture, CAT scan and MRI; exotic pets and animal skeletons; miniature horses and a Belgian horse; tours of laboratories and clinics; an in-progress surgery; a presentation on animal rights and human responsibility; information about the history of veterinary medicine and about careers in veterinary medicine and other animal sciences; and door prizes. Dog owners and their dogs can enter the annual Doggie Dash, a one-mile fun run. Youngsters 12 and under can enter a Kiddie Dash and participate in an animal trivia game. # # # april95:a-day95
