-------------------- N E W S R E L E A S E -------------------- Auburn University - University Relations (334) 844-9999 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 4/4/95 Bob Lowry SMITHSONIAN DIRECTOR TO GIVE WEAVER LECTURE AT AUBURN APRIL 10 AUBURN -- Francisco Dallmeier, director of the Smithsonian Institution Man in the Biosphere Biological Diversity Program, will speak at Auburn University on Monday, April 10. Dallmeier will speak as part of the Weaver Lecture Series in Forestry on the topic of "Toward a Global Network of Forest Biodiversity Monitoring Sites." His lecture -- free and open to the public -- will be at 3 p.m. at the AU Hotel and Conference Center, Meeting Room I. At the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, Dallmeier establishes and coordinates international biological diversity conservation programs in tropical and subtropical areas. He is responsible for more than 40 field and classroom courses in conservation, biology, wildlife and woodland management, research methods and long-term monitoring of biodiversity. Prior to joining the Smithsonian in 1981, Dallmeier was an environmental planner and ecologist coordinator for a Venezuelan engineering company. He is also the former director and mammals department coordinator for the LaSalle Museum of Natural History in Caracas. Dallmeier received his M.S. and Ph.D. in wildlife and natural resources management from Colorado State University.
