-------------------- N E W S R E L E A S E -------------------- Auburn University - University Relations (334) 844-9999 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 4/7/95 Katie Skala WETUMPKA STUDENT ELECTED NEW SGA PRESIDENT AT AUBURN AUBURN -- Winston Tucker of Wetumpka, a junior majoring in building science, has been elected the new Student Government Association president at Auburn University, the SGA announced Friday. Campus-wide student elections were held Thursday. Tucker, who was director of student opinion and senator from the School of Architecture in previous SGA cabinets, received 63 percent of the 3,693 votes cast. Two other candidates, Jennifer Meitin of Altamonte Spring, Fla., and Frank Gatto of Miami, received 23 percent and 14 percent of the votes, respectively. Tucker, who campaigned under the theme "Create. Continue. Change.", says he wants to increase student involvement in the SGA improve the process for the evaluation of teachers by students. "As students of the university, we realize that Auburn is now a diversified campus," he said. "As servants of Auburn, we must realize that it is our duty to carry the university into the 21st century with a vision for the future." In other election results, Shannon Scarbrough of Auburn, a junior majoring in marketing, was elected SGA vice president, and Kelly Kilgore of Pike Road, a junior majoring in accounting, was named Miss Auburn, the official hostess of the university. # # # april95:ausgaelxn
