-------------------- N E W S R E L E A S E -------------------- Auburn University - University Relations (334) 844-9999 ---------------------------------------------------------------- 4/5/95 Janet McCoy JOHN, BARBARA COCHRAN TO LECTURE AT AUBURN APRIL 10-11 AUBURN -- Husband and wife television journalists John and Barbara Cochran will appear as part of the 1994-95 Franklin Lectures series at Auburn University on Monday and Tuesday, April 10-11. The Cochrans will be Visiting Franklin Professors at AU, giving a public presentation, "A Conversation with Barbara and John Cochran," at 4 p.m. Monday in Foy Union Gallery. They will meet with students and faculty on Tuesday. John Cochran covers Congress for ABC News and is regularly seen on "World News Tonight with Peter Jennings" and "Nightline". Prior to joining ABC, Cochran worked for NBC News for 21 years, including a stint as NBC's chief Washington correspondent. Cochran has received two Emmy Awards -- one for his reporting in Poland in 1981 and the other for his anchoring of reports from Romania during the overthrow of the communist regime in 1989. Barbara Cochran since 1989 has been vice president and Washington bureau chief for CBS News. She directed network coverage of the Bush administration, U.S. military action in Panama and the Persian Gulf war, and the 1992 election and transition to the Clinton presidency. Earlier, she worked for NBC, where she was executive producer of "Meet the Press," and for National Public Radio, where, during her tenure, she was responsible for such award-winning programs as "Morning Edition " and "All Things Considered." After the Gulf war, Barbara Cochran was one of several broadcast and print media bureau chiefs who negotiated principles of combat news coverage with the Pentagon.
