DEPARTMENT HEADS ANNOUNCED IN AU COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE
AUBURN -- Academic leaders from Arizona and Michigan have been named to head the departments of Entomology and Animal and Dairy Science in Auburn University's College of Agriculture.
Ed Cupp, who came to AU from the University of Arizona, will head the Department of Entomology, and Werner Bergen, formerly of Michigan State University, will head the Department of Animal and Dairy Science.
"Dr. Ed Cupp brings to his position of Entomology Department Head experience that is both broad across-the-discipline and in-depth in his area of expertise," said Agriculture Dean James Marion. "He has worked in different academic settings over the years and has the background and training to make him an effective administrator. "
Cupp, who earned bachelor's degrees in biology and history from Murray State University and the doctorate in entomology from the University of Illinois, has held positions at Tulane University, the University of Southern Mississippi, Cornell University and the University of Notre Dame.
Bergen, a native of Germany, holds a bachelor's degree in dairy science, a master's in animal science and the doctorate in nutrition, all from Ohio State University. He had been at Michigan State since 1967.
"Dr. Werner Bergen is an animal scientist and biochemist of renown who has distinguished himself over a long career at Michigan State University in research and teaching areas," said Marion. "He is vitally interested in strengthening research and teaching programs in the animal sciences area at AU. He is also committed to extension programs that will make a difference in agriculture in Alabama."
