FORMER HARLEY-DAVIDSON CEO JOINS CONSULTANT IN RETURN VISIT TO AU

AUBURN -- Rich Teerlink, former CEO of Harley-Davidson, Inc., and industry consultant/coach Lee Ozley return to the Auburn University campus on Nov. 14-16 as part of the Lowder Visiting Executive-in-Residence program.

Teerlink and Ozley are Corporate Fellows in the AU College of Business.

Teerlink, was CEO of Harley-Davidson from 1989-1999, is credited with bringing the motorcycle-maker back from the brink of bankruptcy in the mid-1980s.

Ozley, who at the time was working as a consultant to the Milwaukee, Wis.-based company, also played a major role in the acclaimed turnaround. The two tell their story in the book, More Than A Motorcycle: The Leadership Journey at Harley-Davidson, which was published by Harvard Business School Press in September 2000.

During their visit, Teerlink and Ozley are scheduled to speak to graduate management classes and Ph.D roundtables as well as to the first class of the Business-Engineering-Technology program.

The program, which was developed last spring, brings together engineering and business undergraduates who take classes together, work in cross-functional, multidisciplinary teams, learn engineering and business principles, and practice integrating business and engineering principles. Students who complete the program successfully earn the Minor in Business-Engineering-Technology.

The Robert and Charlotte Lowder Visiting Executive-in-Residence program provides students and faculty with an opportunity to interact with prominent executives for an open exchange of views on current issues and to gain insight into the business world.

The program is made possible through an endowment by Robert and Charlotte Lowder of Montgomery. Lowder, a 1964 graduate of the AU College of Business and a member of the AU Board of Trustees, is CEO of Colonial BancGroup.
