AU FACULTY SET 'PRINCIPLES OF PARENTING' SATELLITE SEMINAR OCT. 9
AUBURN -- Auburn University's Department of Human Development and Family Studies and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System will broadcast a second "Principles of Parenting" satellite program on Thursday, Oct. 9.
The topic of this broadcast is "Alternatives to Spanking" and will feature AU faculty members Wally Goddard, Ellen Abell, Greg Pettit and Janice Grover and Carlyn Tucker, director of Childcare Resource Center in Opelika. Goddard and Abell are also extension specialists.
The program will be broadcast from 11:45 a.m. to 1 p.m. (which includes a 15 minute test pattern at the beginning of the broadcast) on satellite coordinates Telstar 4, Channel 19.
The program will be aired over Auburn-Opelika's local cable system, channel 5, on AU's campus cable system and will be shown in the Draughon Library auditorium and can be downlinked to extension system's county offices.

In addition, there will be an opportunity during the broadcast to phone in questions to the experts. The number is 800/446-0390, or in the Auburn-Opelika area, 844-0350.
Panelists will address challenging questions about disciplining children and teaching them to behave. A panel of parents will discuss their everyday experiences and concerns about teaching children to behave and how they feel about spanking.
