AUBURN UNIVERSITY SGA FALL 5K TO BENEFIT PROJECT UPLIFT
AUBURN -- The Auburn University Student Government Association is sponsoring its 3rd Annual Fall 5K on Thursday (Oct. 23), with proceeds going to Project Uplift.
The service group furnishes qualified students as a big brother or big sister to underprivileged children in Lee County, said Jennifer Alexander of Birmingham, 5K director and a junior majoring in public relations.
"Last year we donated $4,000 to Project Uplift and we are hoping for even more this year," she says.
The 5K is a 3.1 mile race which will start at 5:45 p.m. on Biggio Drive next to the Wilbur- Hutsel Track, travel through campus and end at Toomer's Corner. Awards will be given to the winning male and female, top male and female students and the top three runners in each age group. The male and female student winners will have their name engraved on the Rosen-Hutsel Trophy, said Alexander.
"Refreshments will be provided after the race," she said. "There will be Subway sandwiches, bagels, fruits and Powerade drinks."
The entry fee is $10 and registration forms can be picked up at the SGA office or via the SGA web site (www.auburn.edu/sga/f5kapp.htm). Registration will also be available the race at the Gregg Pratt Room in the Student Activities Building from 1:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m., Alexander said.
"T-shirts are only guaranteed to the first 300 applicants, so runners need to register early," she added.
