AU SPONSORING FIRST FALL 5K RUN FOR PROJECT UPLIFT
AUBURN -- Auburn University's Student Government Association is sponsoring the first Auburn Fall 5K run to benefit Project Uplift on Thursday, Oct. 12, at 6 p.m.
Proceeds from the race will help support Project Uplift's "Big Brother, Big Sister" program of Lee County.
The race begins at AUÕs Wilbur Hutsell Track. From the track, runners will race through campus and finish at Toomers Corner.
The top three runners will be awarded medals from each age group: 14 and under; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59 and 60 and over. The top male and female winners of the race will receive plaques.
Also the overall AU male and female student winners will receive the Rosen-Hutsell trophy -- named in honor of two former AU track coaches Melvin Rosen and the late Wilbur Hutsell. Rosen, the only AU coach to head an Olympic track team, will present the trophy to these students in a closing ceremony.
Pre-registration fees are $6 for AU students and $8 for non-students. Race-day registration fee is $10, and race-day registration begins at 4:30 p.m. at the south end of the Martin Aquatics Center.
Project Uplift pairs qualified adults with Lee County children in need of friendship. Its goal is to assist children in developing constructive lives through programs that prevent juvenile delinquency.
