AU'S ARCHITECTURE TO HOLD ANNUAL PUMPKIN CARVE OCT. 27
AUBURN -- The children of Lee County will be in for a special treat Friday, Oct. 27, when more than 250 expertly carved jack-o-lanterns will be displayed at the 7th annual pumpkin carve at Auburn University's College of Architecture, Design and Construction.
The event, which allows architecture students to use the techniques they have learned in class combined with their own creativity, will begin at 6 p.m. in Dudley Courtyard and is free and open to the public.
The pumpkin carve reminds students that "much of architecture is in the pleasure of creating," says Tarik Orgen, a professor of architecture and advisor of the American Institute of Architectural Students, which is sponsoring the event.
"Every time you design you are learning something, but foremost this project is a way for us to include the townspeople into our academic environment."
Joe Alcock, a senior architecture major who is president of AIAS, says while it is a chance for all architecture students to join together on a common project, "we really feel like this is a community event.
"It's a fun activity and the students really come up with some creative designs for the pumpkins," says the West Palm Beach, Fla. native.
