AU TO CELEBRATE JAMES FOY'S BIRTHDAY WITH HOMECOMING PARTY
AUBURN -- Auburn University students, faculty and alumni are invited to a birthday party for former AU Dean of Students James E. Foy on Oct. 20, before Auburn's homecoming football game against Louisiana Tech.
The party -- from 10 a.m.-noon -- will be on the east patio of the James E. Foy Student Union, named for Foy when he retired in 1978. Cake and other refreshments will be available.
Foy, who was dean of students from 1952 until his retirement, turns 85 on Nov. 7. The birthday party is being coordinated by the staff of the Foy Student Union. Assisting in the coordination are all divisions of the Office of Student Affairs, Phi Eta Sigma, Alpha Phi Omega, the Signa Nu fraternity and Sodexho.
A native of Eufaula, Foy graduated from Tuscaloosa High School and earned two degrees from the University of Alabama and a doctorate from Michigan State University. He was formerly assistant to the dean of men and assistant to the dean of students at the University of Alabama.
Foy was a Navy pilot during World War II and was active in the Naval Reserve. He has also been involved with the Auburn Rotary Club, United Fund, American Red Cross and Auburn United Methodist Church.
Foy has been married to the former Emma Lu O'Rear for 58 years. They have two daughters and one grandson.
