LOCAL LEGISLATOR TO SPEAK TO AUBURN BUSINESS STUDENTS

AUBURN -- State Rep. Mike Hubbard, R-Auburn, will speak to Auburn University business students on Monday, April 29, as part of the College of Business' Distinguished Leaders in Government and Business Series.

He will speak at 8:30 a.m., at the Lowder Building, Room 009.

The Distinguished Leaders in Government and Business Series helps AU business students to understand the influences of government on business. Since the series' inception in 1999, the College of Business has hosted such political leaders as Sens. Mike Enzy, R-Wyo.; Jeff Sessions, R-Ala.; Rep. Bob Riley, R-Ala.; and Democratic state Treasurer Lucy Baxley.

Dan Gropper, executive director of Auburn's MBA Program, says the program is beneficial to Auburn students "because it allows them to interact directly with business and government leaders."

"We have strong links with business and government and it's helpful when we have people in leadership positions to come in and talk to our students," he said.

Following the presentation, Hubbard will meet with Interim Dean John Jahera.

Hubbard, 40, was elected to the Alabama House in 1998, becoming the first Republican to ever represent District 79. He plans to seek reelection in November.

The Hartwell, Ga., native received his degree in broadcast journalism from the University of Georgia. He previously worked for the Auburn Athletic Department before starting his own business in 1994.

Today, Hubbard is president and owner of Auburn Network, Inc., which produces and distributes statewide radio and television broadcasts for Auburn athletics. His company also performs other diverse marketing and merchandising activities.
