Perry Smith

RETIRED GENERAL TO LECTURE IN AU COLLEGE OF BUSINESS

AUBURN -- Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Perry Smith, who flew 180 combat missions during the Vietnam war, will be the 2003 James T. Pursell Sr. Distinguished Fellow in Ethics in Auburn University's College of Business on Feb. 19.

Smith, who had a 30-year career in the Air Force, is now a military consultant to NBC News and CBS Radio News and popular speaker. He is a 1956 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy and earned his doctorate in International Relations from Columbia University.

Following his Vietnam service, Smith commanded the F-15 Fighter Wing in Germany, served as the Air Force's top planner and was commandant of the National War College.

He has written six books including, Assignment Pentagon, A Hero Among Heroes and Rules and Tools For Leaders.

While on the Auburn campus, Smith will speak to Professor Achilles Armenakis' Principles of Management course at 8 a.m., and 10 a.m. Armenakis is the Pursell Eminent Scholar of Business Ethics at AU.

At 1:30 p.m., Smith will conduct an ethics workshop for College of Business faculty interested in incorporating an ethics component in their classes

The James T. Pursell Sr. Distinguished Fellow in Ethics Program is funded by an endowment established by James T. Pursell Sr. and recognizes those who have distinguished themselves by promoting ethical values in the management of private and public-sector organizations.
