BAILEY TO SPEAK AS PART OF AU'S BLACK HISTORY MONTH
AUBURN -- Historian and author Richard Bailey of Montgomery will speak at Auburn University on Wednesday (Feb. 19) as part of AU's continuing celebration of Black History Month.
He will speak at 3 p.m., in the Special Collections and Archives section of AU's Ralph Brown Draughon Library.
Bailey's topic will be "They Call Alabama Home, African American Profiles 1800-1999." He has written a book by the same name.
Bailey has been a consultant for the Center for Public Television at the University of Alabama, most notably on its productions on the Lincoln School in Marion and black officeholders in Alabama during reconstruction.
In addition, he is a member of several speakers bureaus and a veteran of many speeches and radio and TV appearances on historical and contemporary topics.
Another book written by Bailey is entitled Neither Carpetbaggers Nor Scalawags: Black Officeholders during the reconstruction of Alabama.
