Dr. Edward Morrison

MORRISON NAMED DEPARTMENT HEAD AT AU VET SCHOOL

AUBURN -- Dr. Edward E. Morrison has been named head of the Auburn University Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology in the College of Veterinary Medicine.

"He is one of Auburn's top faculty members and is highly respected throughout the world for his neurological research," said Dr. Timothy Boosinger, dean of the college. "We are very excited about his promotion and the leadership he will bring to the department."

Morrison, who joined Auburn in 1990, earned his bachelor's degree in 1970 from the University of Massachusetts, and his master's and Ph.D. degrees from Kansas State University in 1976 and 1980, respectively. He was a National Institutes of Health postdoctoral fellow at Florida State University.

At Auburn, he has taught microanatomy, cell physiology, molecular genetics and neuroscience to veterinary students, as well as sensory systems, membrane physiology and cell development to graduate students.

His research exceeds $2.4 million in funding from the U.S. Office of National Drug Control and Policy, Federal Aviation Administration and National Institutes of Health. His primary focus involves examining the structure, function development and plasticity of the main and accessory olfactory systems.

Morrison has written 31 professional papers, 64 abstracts and four book chapters. He has had research findings published in more than 50 different publications, such as Scientific America and the Yearbook of Neuroscience.

Morrison is a member of several scientific associations, including the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Association for Chemoreceptor Sciences, Society for Neuroscience, American Association of Veterinary Anatomists, and the American Association of Anatomists. He is also a member of the Sigma Xi and Phi Zeta honor societies.
