Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the University Policies and Procedures web site?
The University Policies and Procedures web site is an online environment, better known as a policy management system. It is a web-based application used to centralize information about Auburn University policies and procedures. The si
te for policies links from the President's homepage.
Q. I have a question about a topic not covered on the University Policies and Procedures web site. How do I get the answer?
If you do not find the information that you need on this web site, please contact the Dean or appropriate department head; the administrator can contact the Provost or President for an answer if additional investigation is needed.
Q. What browser do I need?
This application functions best in browsers such Internet Explorer 6 or higher or FireFox 6 or higher.
Q. How do I configure my browser?
Links to the actual policies cause a new window to pop up. You will need to disable all popup blockers for the application site or temporarily allow popups to view the policy.
Q. Why are policies not in a standard format? Why must I read through an entire handbook to find the answer to my policy question?
The plan for now is to have the policies remain in their current locations with a link from the University Policies and Procedures web site. The new recommended standard format for policy and procedure statements that are not currently o
nline includes the following components: purpose, policy statement, effective date, applicability, responsibility, definitions, procedures, sanctions, exclusions, and interpretation.
Q. Who approves new policies?
An administrator, dean, director, or department head may approve procedural statements or changes. However, procedures with broad University impact and scope should be approved by the responsible vice president or administrator.
Determination of the appropriate authority for final approval of a policy or procedure is dependent upon the judgment of the involved University officials. When in doubt regarding level of final approval, the responsible unit seeks appro
val from a higher administration level.
Q. How do I suggest changes to policies?
Suggestions for changes to policies published on this web site should be submitted to a supervisor or manager who may decide to forward them to the next highest administrative level for consideration.
Q. How do I find superseded policies?
Issuing units are responsible for retaining policies and procedures for at least six years after they are superseded. You should contact the responsible unit for the information.
Q. How do I determine the effective date of a policy?
We assigned an effective date of July 28, 2006, to all policies submitted to our office before we launched the web site; policies submitted after that date will have a new effective date. You should check with the responsible unit for ad
ditional information.
Q. I have an idea for a new policy. How should I proceed?
Please follow the steps outlined in the Policy on Policies section at the following address: www.auburn.edu/policies.
Q. Who should I contact if I have additional questions about this web site?
The Office of the President should be contacted with questions concerning this web site or the policies listed on it. Written suggestions for changes to the web site should be submitted to the University Policy Coordinator, Office
of the President, 107 Samford Hall, Auburn University, Alabama 36849.
