One of the greatest opportunities for faculty to participate in sharing
responsibility for University governance is through service on Senate
and University committees. These standing committees give faculty a
role in shaping university policies affecting the faculty, students, the
curriculum, teaching and research. Your opportunity to volunteer for
openings in 2007-08 begins today and continues through 4:45 pm March 23,
2007. New appointments will take effect in August of 2007 and, unless
otherwise noted, are for three years.
An attempt has been made to ensure that volunteering is quick and
simple. This email explains the general process and then provides
specific, step-by-step instructions. The general steps to follow if you
are interested in volunteering for one or more committees are:
1. Determine which committee(s) you would like to volunteer for
2. Enter the campus system and complete the on-line volunteer process.
You may volunteer for up to 4 committees. Note that, because some
committees have specific needs and because an effort is made by the
Rules Committee to staff each committee with people from a variety of
academic units, you may not be named to the committee you indicate is
your top choice although every effort is made to do so.
3. Logout of the campus system.
Once the volunteer period is closed the Rules Committee will begin
working to staff each of the Senate Committees and will begin sending
nominations for University Committees to the President’s office. All
new members of Senate Committees are approved by the Senate during
either the June or July Senate meeting (dependent on when the staffing
of committees is completed) and you will receive a letter officially
naming you to a committee if you are selected. New members of
University Committees will receive a letter from the President’s office
officially naming them to a specific committee.

)
by clicking on either “Senate Committees New Members Needed!” or
“University Committees New Members Needed!”.
3. Enter the campus system and volunteer for up to 4 committees. You do
this by going to the Campus system at
https://oitapps.auburn.edu/campus/
You will need your global ID and your date of birth to log onto the
system. Your global ID telephone directory. Enter your global ID and your birth date and click
on “apply online”.
You should then see a page that lists your basic Human Resources
information. If the information is incorrect, contact Human Resources
and request the information be corrected. If the information is correct
click on “Start” and you should see a page with “Step 1: Select a
committee to see its charge and membership.” Click on the drop-down list
of committees and select a committee. You will then see a page that
says “Step 2: Committee Information”. This page will give the name of
the committee you selected, indicate whether it is a Senate or
University Committee, and a short description of the Committee Charge.
There is an empty box in which you can enter any comments or information
you would like the Rules Committee to be aware of when they are
considering your name. Under that box are three options: “Apply”
“Nominate” “Cancel”. If you are interested in volunteering for the
committee click “Apply”. If you are nominating someone else (please
make sure they are willing to be nominated) click “Nominate”. If, after
reading the short description, you are not interested hit “Cancel” and
you will be returned to “Step 1” where you can select another committee
from the drop-down list.
As you select committees, a list of the committees you volunteer for
will appear on the bottom of the “Step 2” page.
Once you have completed the process you should click on “Back to Main
Page” where you will see a list of the committees you have volunteered
for. You should be able to delete any committee that was added in
error. Once you have verified your list click on “Logout” and you have
completed the process.
The system should work for most any platform this year but if you have
problems with the system, call 844-9960. If you are unable to access
the on-line volunteer system you can email the Senate Secretary at:
univsen@auburn.edu and indicate which committee or committees you are
interested in.
If you have any questions, please send them to Ann Beth Presley via the
University Senate email address: univsen@auburn.edu
