Calendar and Schedules Committee – Proposed Fall 2001 Calendar

2001 Fall Semester (74 Days)

August 17                     Orientation for new students

August 20                     Classes begin

September 3                 Labor Day Holiday

October 10                  Mid semester (37th day)

October 15-16             Fall Break

November 21-25            Thanksgiving Holidays

December 7                 Classes end

December 8-9              Study/Reading Days (formerly "dead days")

December 10-14        Final Exams

December 15               Graduation

This calendar was selected for the following reasons:

1. Meets the criteria of a later start date - Classes begin on August 20, allowing faculty and graduate students to prepare for classes within the constraints of the August 16th payroll period.

2. Fall break is included, as was requested by the students

3. The calendar closely follows the AUM calendar

4. The number of partial weeks is minimized (3) and class days are equalized to a large degree for M-W-F vs T-TH

5. The ending date is reasonably early in December - allows 10 days between graduation and Christmas

6. Allows two days (over the weekend) between the end of classes and the beginning of exams as study/reading days (formerly dead days).
