Non-Return Water Savings

Non-Return Water is comprised of all of the water the university uses that is not returned to the sanitary sewer. By reporting this usage to the City of Auburn, we receive a credit for the sewer cost that is charged to all water use. Currently the sewer rate is $4.32 per 1,000 gallons of use. Examples of Non-Return Water at Auburn University include our irrigation systems, fire hydrants, and the water that evaporates from the cooling towers. This water is metered separately in order to capture the savings.

Note: Since May 2005, Auburn University has saved $2,340,411.09.
