The Waste Reduction and Recycling Department collected recyclables for three years as single-stream or mixed recycling. This means that all the paper, cardboard, plastic bottles #1 & #2 and aluminum/steel/tin cans were mixed into one recycling bin. In December 2008, the department felt the impact of the economic downturn with the drastic drop in prices for recyclables worldwide, and the loss of the local single-stream recycling market. This caused the Waste Reduction and Recycling Department to convert its collection program from single-stream collection to a sorted collection. The sorted program will sort recyclables into three main categories: Mixed Paper, Plastic & Aluminum (plastic bottles #1 & #2, aluminum/steel/tins cans) & Cardboard.
The following changes will occur across campus during 2011:

New Labels & Deskside Bins for MIXED PAPER ONLY
