CRT vs. LCD Monitors
CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) monitors use 50 -70% more energy than that of LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) monitors. The fluctuation in the percentage can be attributed to the various size screens that are available. According to the European Energy Star website “A recent LBNL study on new monitors and personal computers reports that in their sample 15" LCD monitors consume 30% as much power when on as 15" CRTs, and 17" LCDs consume 51% as much power when on as 17" CRTs. This advantage tends to get smaller as LCD screens become bigger.”
