2013 Healthy Tigers Wellness Initiative
The Auburn University Department of Payroll and Employee Benefits is pleased to announce the continuation of a healthcare benefit for Auburn University employees who subscribe to Auburn University's Blue Cross/Blue Shield health insurance. Employees who elect to take advantage of the Healthy Tigers Wellness Initiative can earn a $25.00 per month credit on their health insurance premiums (up to $300 per year) by participating in a health and wellness screening program coordinated by the Auburn University Pharmaceutical Care Center (AUPCC) located in 2155 Walker Building, Harrison School of Pharmacy.
Beginning January 1, 2013, the Healthy Tigers Wellness Program will add a new measure to the Healthy Tigers assessments that must be completed to receive the discount on health insurance premiums. In addition to screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, and glucose (or blood sugar), the height, weight and BMI (body mass index) measurements will be required.
As part of the Healthy Tigers program for 2013, the BMI measure will be used to educate employees and their covered spouse about health and wellness resources that are available to help them work towards a healthier lifestyle.
One screening is required between January 1 and November 30, 2013 in order to qualify for the 2014 insurance premium discount. In addition to the employee screening, spouses who are covered under the AU BCBS insurance (family plan or employee+spouse plan) are also required to be screened annually. Appointments may be scheduled on line through the Healthy Tigers web site. Those who do not have internet access may call the AUPCC at (334)844-4099. Clinics are scheduled for locations across the main campus, at AU Montgomery and at key sites throughout the state. Clinics will be conducted from January through November 2013. The AUPCC will not conduct screenings during the month of December.
In lieu of attending a clinic an employee who sees his or her doctor regularly and has the required tests completed through a physician may have the doctor submit a Healthcare Provider Screening Form to the Healthy Tigers office. The screening visit must have occurred after January 1, 2013 and prior to the deadline for submission of forms which is close of business on Novermber 30, 2013. Verification of receipt of Healthcare Provider and/or Referral forms in the Healthy Tigers office may be completed through AU Access. See the Healthy Tigers FAQs for instructions on checking your status. Forms received after Novermber 30, 2013 deadline will not be accepted for the discount in 2014.
NOTE: Lab, office visit and other screening costs associated with the some of the Healthy Tigers screening procedures, if conducted by your physician, may be billable to you unless they are deemed to be medically necessary. Please consult with your doctor or your BCBS Summary of Benefits to determine how this might affect you.
