The Surplus Property Office ensures Auburn University is compliant with the Alabama law regarding the disposal of property, as well as contributing to the overall efficiency of the University. We also provide the continued use of State funded equipment by assisting other Alabama public entities with their equipment needs.
Bill Capps serves as the Director of Surplus Property and while managing the disposal of University property, Capps consistently pursues innovative approaches to redistribute gently used University furnishings back into the State and local communities. While Surplus Property does regularly host a public sale of goods to everyone, Capps also focuses on the demand of Alabama public school equipment needs with a specific sale for State and school entities during the summer.
“With a phenomenal College of Education at Auburn, we want these students to leave campus knowing that if there is a time during their career when they need equipment they should come by Surplus first” states Capps. “During an academic year, we will collect plenty of classroom items such as desks for students and teachers, podiums, white boards, overhead projectors, file cabinets –the list goes on! The items we sell have tremendous discounts but are gently used so they can fill their classrooms without spending a lot of money.”
