Sigma Xi Auburn

The following Culture, Mission and Vision Statements were updated and approved by the Sigma Xi Board of Directors on November 11, 2004.

Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Society is the honor society of scientists and engineers that recognizes scientific achievement.

Culture: The Society is a diverse chapter-based organization dedicated to the advancement of science and engineering through outstanding programs and services delivered in a collegial and supportive environment.

Mission: To enhance the health of the research enterprise, foster integrity in science and engineering, and promote the public's understanding of science for the purpose of improving the human condition.

Vision: To be the global honor society of science and engineering.

Sigma Xi was founded in 1886 by a group of engineering students under the mentorship of Frank von Fleck of Cornell University. It began as a society of scientists and engineers devoted to research. Today, it is an international society with over 80,000 members and over 500 local chapters worldwide. The National Headquarters are located in North Carolina's Research Triangle Park. The society's scholarly journal, American Scientist, is published six times each year.
