DAMES

Daughters & Mothers Exploring Science

Sponsored by: the Society of Women in Sciences and Mathematics


DAMES is a brand new initiative of the Society of Women in Sciences and Mathematics (SWSM), based at Auburn University. SWSM is a society of professional women scientists and mathematicians from industry, higher education, and K-12 education, who aim to inspire and encourage young women to pursue career paths in sciences and mathematics. The DAMES conference will occur annually in the spring.

 

When: Saturday, November 14, 2009 (8:00 am - 2:00 pm)
Who: Girls currently in grades 6-8 and their mothers, or a friend
Where: Auburn University Campus - Science Center Complex
What: A great day of science activities designed just for girls!
Cost: $10.00 per girl (mothers are free!)

(includes materials, snack break, lunch, special conference tote bag , and lots of fun door prizes!)

Schedule:

8:00am – 8:30am            Check-in (pre-registration required)

8:30am – 11:45am           Your choice of three special science activities

12:00pm – 2:00pm           Lunch and Keynote Speaker

During lunch, we will discuss the topic “How will I know what classes to take in high school?” followed by career advice from a successful female scientist



Registration Process:


You will receive an email confirmation of registration within one week of registering. In addition, information packets with more details about parking, final schedule, etc., will be e-mailed in mid-October.  A variety of courses will be offered during the morning session. Course offerings and descriptions will be included in the information packets.
