SEMESTER COURSES

(starting Fall 2001)

SCIENCE MAJORS

BIOL 1020 ( Principles of Biology) - Introduction to the physical, chemical and biological principles common to all organisms.  These principles are explained through study of the scientific method, cell structure and function, cellular reproduction, basic biochemistry, cell energetics, Mendelian and molecular genetics, and population and ecosystem dynamics.
PREREQUISITES: None

BIOL 1030 ( Organismal Biology) - An introduction to the basic ecological and evolutionary relationships among organisms and a survey of the kingdoms of living things, including classification, morphology, physiology, and reproduction.
PREREQUISITES: BIOL 1020

NON SCIENCE MAJORS

BIOL 1000 (Introductory Biology) - Introduction to biological principles for students not majoring in sciences, with a focus on cellular mechanisms, evolution, and ecology.
PREREQUISITES: None

BIOL 1010 (A Survey of Life) - Discussion of biological function for students not majoring in sciences, with special emphasis on contrasting strategies employed by organisms in meeting similar biological needs.
PREREQUISITES: BIOL 1000

                                                                    HONORS

BIOL 1027  (Honors Principles of Biology) - Introduction to the physical, chemical, and biological principles common to all organisms. These principles are explained through study of the scientific method, cell structure and function, cellular reproduction, basic biochemistry, cell energetics, Mendelian and molecular genetics, and population and ecosystem dynamics.
