Other than specimens used in teaching, no organized collection of invertebrates exists at the present time. Because of the exceptionally high invertebrate diversity in Alabama (more than in almost any other state), the need to develop a collection is critical. Moreover, no comprehensive collections of inverterates occur at an Alabama institutions, thus the need is even more pressing. Although collections of other groups are presently housed in temporary quarters or are scattered at different sites, no space is presently available for the development of the beginnings of an invertebrate collection.
