Until recently, no organized collection
of invertebrates existed at Auburn. However, due increasing regional interest
in the status and ecology of freshwater mollusks we have begun to organize
a mollusk research collection. Presently we have accumulated over 1,000
lots primarily consisting of freshwater mussels (Bivalvia: Unionidae) and
snails. Because of the exceptionally high mollusk diversity in Alabama
(more than in almost any other state), the need to further develop this collection
is critical. Recently, significant space became available to house
the invertebrate collection in the former Physiology Building. At the
present time the collection is in its infancy but we anticipate substantial
growth in the coming years. We welcome contributions to the collection
and will loan materials to interested parties. For more information
on mollusk collections at Auburn please visit the
