COSAM Graduate Students Travel Fund

Travel applications - CURRENT DEADLINE: 1 March 2008

Recent Recipients

To apply, complete the application form and submit the original and 4 copies to: Lorraine W. Wolf, Department of Geology and Geography, 210 Petrie Hall. The application can be typed online before printing by positioning the cursor in the text box that you want to fill in.

This Committee will use the following guidelines:

1. Funds are available to COSAM graduate students to support travel to meetings in which they present thesis or dissertation research. Students must be registered and on campus during the term they travel.

2. Review periods, travel periods, and application deadlines are as follows:

Review Period Travel Period Application Deadline
1 - Fall Semester 15 August - 1 February 1 November
2 - Spring Semester 15 Dec. - 15 June 1 March
3 - Summer 15 April - 15 October 1 July

3. The Committee requires time to process and evaluate the applications so students planing travel close to the review period may not have our decision until their return.

4. The amount per award may vary, depending on the funds available, the number of applicants, and the reason for travel. Preference will be given to first-time applicants, although others will be considered.

5. Preference will be given to those who will be making an oral presentation or poster as senior author of their thesis or dissertation, rather than simply attending a meeting or presenting non-degree research. Should students not be first authors on papers, some explanation why this is so should be given in their justification.

6. Applicants are expected to provide documentation of attempts to obtain funds from other sources (e.g., Graduate School, department funds, etc.) as well as an account of all prior travel awards pertaining to their research at AU.

7. Students and their major professors must provide justification for support (see application form). Applicants also must provide a curriculum vita that describes their educational background, previous research and teaching experience, list of publications, academic awards, and other significant experience. Autobiographical vitae similar to those in student thesis or dissertations, as directed by the Graduate School, are not acceptable.
