Research Interests: Johanna studies the evolutionary relationships of a group of marine invertebrates called hemichordates. Hemichordate means "part chordate", and because hemichordates share morphological features with chordates (including vertebrates like humans), their evolutionary history is particularly interesting for studies of chordate ancestry.
