Gaines Lanier Nominated for Seat on AU Board of Trustees

Gaines Lanier from Lanett, Ala., was today unanimously nominated by Gov. Bob Riley and the Auburn University Trustee Selection Committee for a seat on the AU Board of Trustees. The nomination requires confirmation by the Alabama Senate. Lanier would represent District 5, which includes Chambers, Cherokee, Cleburne, DeKalb, Etowah, Marshall, Randolph and Tallapoosa Counties. Lanier is chairman and CEO of J. Smith Lanier & Comp., an insurance brokerage in West Point, Ga. He graduated from AU in 1974 with a bachelor of science in business administration. Members of the selection committee for District 5 are AU trustees Earlon McWhorter and Paul Spina, alumni board members Nancy Fortner and Dent Williams, and Gov. Riley, who serves as president of the Board of Trustees.
