Guidelines for Preparing a Nomination for the W. Kelly Mosley Professor of Science and Humanities
Recognizing that the Mosley Professorship involves science and humanities, the nominee must have a demonstrated record of activity that reflects his/her significant accomplishments at the interface of these disciplines. The primary responsibility of the Mosley Professor of Science and Humanities will be the direction of the Littleton-Franklin Lectures program. This lecture series, which has been ongoing at Auburn for the past forty-five years, has a major goal of building bridges between science and the humanities. Duties associated with the lectures program include arranging for a slate of prominent speakers whose topics are consistent with the broad intellectual goals of the program, publicizing the lectures, coordinating speaker visits with undergraduate classes, and arranging informal discussions between faculty, students, and the lecturer. The nomination document should begin with a cover page including the nominee’s name, academic rank, home department and year of tenure at Auburn. That page should also include the name and signature of the nominator and date of nomination. Attached to the cover page should be supporting information (not to exceed 2 pages) for the nominee addressing the features relevant to the Professorship including a clear indication that the nominee possesses a distinguished record of undergraduate teaching and scholarly research. Also, include a recent curriculum vita of the nominee and two supporting letters. The nominee must be a tenured faculty member at Auburn University and cannot be a currently titled professor. Nominations (one set, original signature) are due in the College of Sciences and Mathematics Dean’s Office (SCC 246) no later than December 14, 2009. Electronic nominations are not acceptable. A committee composed of five faculty members who have been scholarly active at the science/humanities interface will review the nominations and forward 2-3 names to Provost Mazey, who will make the selection.
