Microsoft Windows
- Determine what Windows version you have (Instructions)
- Find your computer name.
- Windows 2000: Your computer name is shown in the Full Computer Name field when you right-click My Computer, click Properties, click the Network Identification tab.
- Windows XP: Your computer name is shown in the Full Computer Name field when you click Start, right-click My Computer, choose Properties, click the Computer Name tab.
- Windows Vista: Your computer name is the text shown in the Computer Name field when you click Start, right-click Computer, choose System Properties.
- Changing your computer name (only if needed).
- Windows 2000:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.
- On the Network Identification tab, click Advanced.
- If you want to change the computer name, type the new name you want in the New Computer Name box. If not, continue to the next step.
- Windows XP:
- Click Start, right-click Computer, choose System Properties.
- In the System Properties window that appears, go to the "Computer Name" tab and click the "Change..." button.
- In the "Computer name:" field, enter your new computer name and click Ok. You'll need to reboot your computer to have the new name take effect.
- Windows Vista:
- Click Start, right-click Computer, choose System Properties.

- Click "Change Settings" by the shield icon. You will get a User Access Control prompt asking if you want to continue. Click "Continue" in this message.
- In the System Properties window that appears, go to the "Computer Name" tab and click the "Change..." button.
- In the "Computer name:" field, enter your new computer name and click Ok. You'll need to reboot your computer to have the new name take effect.
Apple Macintosh OS X

In order for Sophos to function correctly we need to know your computer name. Simply go into system preferences, and select “Sharing.” Your computer name should appear in a box at the top of the window. You can also change your computer name there if you wish.
