Application Procedure
For your application to be fully considered by our Graduate Committee, ALL of the following steps need to be done.
Fill out on-line Departmental application (NOTE: If you find during the application process that you do not have all the required information you will have to restart the application from the beginning!! We prefer all applications to be on-line but if this is not possible at the bottom of this page is a link to a graduate application form which can be downloaded, filled-out and mailed to the address below. This can also be used as a worksheet for the online form.)
Information needed before filling out on-line application..
- Name
- Present and home address
- Social security number (if available)
- Summary of all post secondary education
- Summary of employment
- GRE scores (GRE Subject Test in Chemistry or Biochemistry is recommended but not required)
- TOEFL scores (international students only; A minimum TOEFL score of 550 (paper test) or 213 (computerized) or 79 (internet-based test) plus a minimum of 16 on the listening, reading, speaking, and writing components is required to be considered for admission.)
- Grade point averages for Chemistry, Science and math and overall
- Names, addresses AND E-mails of three recommenders familiar with your ability to conduct research and/or be successful in a graduate program
- A personal statement expressing your reason for pursuing advanced studies in chemistry. (You can also specify here the research program(s)/faculty members you are interested in joining or working with)
- Application Form

- Official scores from the General Test of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) must be sent by Educational Testing Services to Auburn University, Code 1005. A decision on your application can be made based on scores you report in the on-line application; however, official scores will need to be presented for the formal admission by the graduate school.
- Two sets of official transcripts for all post-secondary education must be sent to the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry (address below).
- The on-line application form will automatically request your three references to e-mail their letters to the department. However, you should notify the recommenders to expect the request and always be sure to check with them that a recommendation was sent out. If a request is not received by your recommender(s), please have them e-mail their letter to the department. You will not be considered as having applied until all three reference letters have been received. ( If e-mail is not available to a recommender, a hard copy can be mailed to the address below.)
- Auburn University application (the department will complete this after your acceptance)
- Graduate Application fee (the department will pay this after your acceptance)
NOTE: The deadline for international applicants is February 15.
