H. hammarlundi Rendahl, 1937 1
1 H. hammarlundi is in all likelihood
a synonym of H. landoni.
H. landoni is unique among loricariids in the extreme amount
of curvature of its maxilla, the angle is less than 90°.
A description and diagnosis for this page is being
prepared.
Differs from all other Hemiancistrus and most other Ancistrini
by being located west of the Andes. It is probably only sympatric
with Chaetostoma and Ancistrus which both lack plates
along the snout margin. Also sympatric with
Hypostomus spinosissimus
which has evertible cheek plates, a white base color with small black spots
(vs. tan to brown base color with large black spots ), a long, whip-like
tail in adults, and which obtains elongate odontodes on breeding males
Only in rivers that drain into the Gulf of Guayaquil and just south
of the gulf on the Pacidfic slope of Ecuador.
