A non-scholarship, Basic College Program,

is available to incoming freshmen who did not

receive the National 4-year NROTC Scholarship!

(Navy or Marine Corps)

Students applying for the Basic College Program must first gain admission to Auburn University. Basic College Program students enroll in the regular naval science classes/labs, receive uniforms, naval science textbooks, and are full participants in the Naval Battalion. Each year, the Professor of Naval Science (PNS) nominates outstanding Basic College Program students with above average aptitude, an academic average of B- or better, and the ability to complete one year of calculus and calculus based physics for transfer to scholarship status. Additionally, the PNS will yearly nominate Basic College Program students for continuation in the NROTC program as an Advanced Standing College Program student. In addition to the Basic College Program benefits, an Advanced Standing student receives a monthly stipend of $350 in the junior year and $400 in the senior year but is not required to take calculus or physics and does not receive any tuition assistance. The scholarship and Advance Standing boards meet in March and July of each year. In order to continue in the NROTC program, students must gain scholarship status or Advance Standing status by the beginning of their junior year of naval science. To be eligible for the Basic College Program, you must complete the college program application.

Naval ROTC students are required to take one naval science course per quarter during their four years in the program. The curriculum includes courses in the following subjects:

Scholarship:

Academic majors are divided into 3 Tiers. Tier 1 is technical, Tier 2 is Science and Math and Tier 3 non-technical. As of Fall 2009, scholarships are tied to academic degrees. A student changing from a major in a higher tier to a major in a lower tier will risk losing their scholarship.
