Rules for Pellet Rifle Competition

1.      Course of fire: NRA ¼ course (30 record shots: 10 record shots each in prone, kneeling, and standing positions.) Positions may be fired in any order with a total of 46 minutes actual firing time.

2.      Equipment:

a.       Rifle: Must comply with NRA rules.  Only metallic sights will be permitted.  Colored plastic inserts may be used in front or rear sights.

 

  1. Accessories: NRA approved accessories may be used but must be provided by teams excepted as noted below

 

 

                        1) Sling cuff may be used.

 

                 2) No type of artificial support for rifles or firers may be used other than kneeling rolls when firing in the kneeling position.

 

                        3) Teams may use their own mats. Mats will not be provided.

                        4) The team should provide M49 telescopes.

  1. Targets: NRA Official AR-1 10 meter (33 feet) air rifle targets will provide by match officials.
  2. Ammunition: Teams must provide their own ammunition.

3.   Team Matches:

a.       Each school may enter one or more four person teams.  No shooter may fire on more than one team.

  1. Team score will be the total of the four team-members.
  2. By name team list will be given to the appropriate range official prior to teams moving onto the firing ranges.
  3. Coaching will be permitted but will be limited to hand signal or quiet whispers.

4.  Range Procedures:

a.       Each order will report to the ready line with the rifles and equipment fifteen (15) minutes prior to the time the order is scheduled to fire at the rifle range. 

b.      All firing will begin and/or cease on command of the range officer.

c.       Each order will receive a ten-minute safety orientation briefing by range officials prior to moving onto the firing range.  Total range time will be 1 hour consisting of: 5 minutes preparation point, 5 minutes for zero/fouling, 2 minutes for position adjustment, and 46 minutes firing period, and 2 minutes to clear the range.

d.      Each firer will sign for his/her numbered sets of targets from the range officer after the prefiring safety and orientation briefing.  Range officials will collect all targets after they have been fired for each position. Coaches may hang and change targets.  Firers will not be allowed to handle the fired targets other than to remove them from the targets holder/carriers and hand to range officials until after scoring is completed by the range scorers.

e.       After the order to commence firing is given, no competitor may leave the firing range without permission of the range officer or until the order to cease fire, end of match is given, each firer has 2 minutes to clear the range.  Any time shaved from the 46 minutes will add to the 2-minute clearance time.

5.      Scoring:  

  1. The statistical area is off-limits to all competitors.
  2. Targets will be scored upon completion of firing.  There will be a 15-minute challenge period upon completion of the scoring of the team’s targets.  An individual desiring to challenge a target will place a question mark on the individual target for a decision by the designated official scorer.  No challenges will be made on plugged targets.  Challengers will not be accepted unless all the team’s targets are turned in at the same time.
  3. Upon completion of the 15-minute challenge period, the scores will be deemed official.
  4. In case of individual/team tie scores, the following tiebreaker will be used:

1)      Highest standing position individual/team score

2)      Highest kneeling position individual/team score

3)      Highest prone position individual/team score

 

  1. All targets will be retained in the statistical area until after the meet.
  2. Teams desiring to keep their target may pick them up after the awards ceremony from the Army NCOIC.

6.      Range Courtesy:

  1. In order to limit range noise and distractions, talking will be limited to official business and will be conducted at a whisper.
  2. Firers should exercise caution when moving equipment around between positions to avoid disturbing their neighbors.
  3. With the desire result of limiting distractions, only firers, coaches, one assistant per team and range officials will be permitted on the firing range while relay in underway.

      1st Team with most bulls

      2nd Shoot-off with one shooter from each team.  Standing position.  One shot only
