Luis A. Saavedra
Army ROTC Military Science Instructor

 

Luis A. Saavedra was raised in Muscle Shoals, Alabama and graduated from Muscle Shoals High School in June 1993.  He served honorably in the military for 6 years and 3 months.  He entered the United States Army on 16 January 2006 and went to Basic Training at Fort Benning, GA.  After Basic Training he went to Advanced Individual Training at Fort Gordon, GA as a Satellite Communications Equipment Operator/Maintainer (25S).  In 2007 he deployed to Afghanistan with the 82nd Airborne in support of Operation Enduring Freedom VIII.  He attended Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning, GA, commissioning on 24 April 2009.  He completed Signal Officer Basic Course at Fort Gordon, GA.  He joined Auburn University ROTC Program as a Senior Military Science instructor in May 2012.

Mr. Saavedra has held a variety of Signal leadership positions to include Satellite Communication team chief, Company Executive Officer, Assistant Battalion Communications Officer, and Battalion Communications Officer.  Mr. Saavedra's military education includes Warrior Leader Course, Airborne School, Officer Candidate School, Signal Officer Basic Course, and the School of Cadet Command Instructor Training Course.  Mr. Saavedra has a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from the University of Alabama.  He continues to maintain credentials related to Signal networking and information technology.  He also maintains credentials as a Licensed Minister with the Assemblies of God Church.
   
Mr. Saavedra is married to Sharon (13 years) and they have one son: John-Moore (2).
