LTC Segars is a distinguished military graduate of North Georgia College with a bachelor’s degree in business management and holds a master’s degree in adult education from Kansas State University. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1988, LTC Segars has served in a variety of Armor, Cavalry and Infantry positions. Most recently, he served as the Chief of U.S./Canadian Border Operations for Joint Task Force North; a subordinate operational headquarters in U.S. Northern Command, which provides military support to federal law enforcement agencies to detect and deter transnational threats to the United States.

After his commissioning as a lieutenant of Armor, LTC Segars served as a cavalry platoon leader in the 197 th Infantry Brigade at Fort Benning, Georgia and later with the 24 th Infantry Division during Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Following his graduation from the Infantry Advanced Course and promotion to captain, he served as a battalion maintenance officer at Camp Casey, Korea, a tank company commander at Fort Carson, Colorado and a cavalry troop commander at Fort Bliss, Texas. Beginning in 1997, LTC Segars served with Fifth U.S. Army and later with the 91 st Infantry Division as a small unit team chief in support of Army National Guard training and combat preparation in Washington, Oregon, California and Hawaii. Following his graduation from the Army Command and General Staff College in 2001, LTC Segars was again assigned to Fort Benning and served as a battalion executive officer and later a brigade operations officer in the 3 rd Infantry Division during Operations Desert Spring in Kuwait and subsequently Operation Iraqi Freedom.

LTC Segars’ awards include, the Bronze Star Medal for valor with oak leaf cluster, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Combat Action Badge, the Ranger Tab and the Parachutist Badge.
