Detachment
5
Welcome to Auburn University's Air Force ROTC website. There are
resources here for current cadets as well as information for those
thinking of joining us at Det Five. Let's start by saying that the
Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps (AFROTC) is an educational
program designed to allow young men and women to pursue a commission
in the United States Air Force while pursuing a college degree.
The purpose of the AFROTC program is to provide quality development
of the individual so that they may serve as an effective leader
and officer upon entering the United States Air Force. The AFROTC
program is open to all college students regardless of major or academic
year. For broad questions and concerns about the AFROTC program
and scholarships please visit http://www.afrotc.com/ (http://www.afoats.af.mil and http://www.af.mil )- for specific information, questions, and concerns about Detachment 5 please contact via email at Det005@maxwell.af.mil or call us at (334) 844 - 4355
or schedule a visit to

Cadet Life
There are many activities within Detachment 005 that a cadet is able to be involved in. Some activitites such as Leadership Laboratory, Physical Training, and Aerospace classes are mandatory, but also invigorating! Our Leadership Laboratory not only involves sessions in the classroom that teach different aspects of the Air Force, but we also have sessions that are involved with outdoor, hands-on learning and also some sessions that involve inter-wing competitions! Our physical training is also an exciting part of our detachment. We not only train like and with the hardest, but we also have fun along the way with ultimate frisbee, dodge ball, and other sports. Our Aerospace classes are also an important way that cadets learn about what it's like to be in the Air Force, and how to develop into a quality leader. Along with these activities, we also have extra curricular activities that make our detachment unique. We have a free rafting trip every fall semester primarilly for our incoming freshman. We also sponsor an inter-service sports competitions (e.g. football, soccer, basketball, 5k ...) called Commanders Cup for a big trophy at the end of the year to be won by the service with the most wins! We have a mentoring program that greatly aids younger students with questions about their major, classes, or general ROTC facts. We are full of pride when it comes to our cadets and how well we are trained! Come see what it's all about, and be assured you'll find something for you here at Detachment 005.

Leadership Laboratory
Leadership Laboratory is an integral part of the Air Force ROTC program. It provides an opportunity for students to apply classroom teachings to actual environments. The laboratory meets for 2 hours each week. Instruction is conducted within the framework of an organized cadet corps with a progression of experiences designed to develop leadership potential. Leadership Laboratory involves a study of the life and work of Air Force junior officers. Students develop their leadership potential in a practical, supervised laboratory, which typically includes field trips to Air Force installations. The first two years of Leadership Laboratory involve activities classified as initial leadership experiences. This includes studying Air Force customs and courtesies and drill and ceremonies; giving military commands; instructing, correcting, and evaluating the preceding skills; studying the environment of an Air Force base; and learning about career opportunities available to commissioned officers. The last two years of Leadership Laboratory consist of activities classified as advanced leadership experiences. They involve the planning, organizing, coordinating, directing, and controlling of the military activities of the cadet corps; the preparation and presentation of briefings and other oral and written communications; and the providing of interviews, guidance, and information that will increase the understanding, motivation, and performance of other cadets.
