WHAT IS UNIV 1100: First - Year Seminar?
UNIV 1100: First - Year Seminar is an elective course that introduces students to academic life at Auburn University. The purpose of this course is to assist students in becoming more successful as they make the transition from high school/junior college to college. The First - Year Seminar provides students with instruction on effective study skills, time management, note taking, effective reading, test taking, information processing, self and group assessment, personal development, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, problem solving, time management, and self management. This two-credit hour course teaches the academic skills in the explorative context of a particular topic (e.g. sustainability/environmentalism, international studies).
The objectives of UNIV 1100 are:
- to demonstrate understanding of the learning process and the relationship of higher education to students' lives.
- to develop specific learning and study skill strategies to achieve effective academic performance.
- to examine affective issues that influence the learning process such as goal setting, motivation and attitude.
- to demonstrate the ability to integrate the skills of reading, writing, and speaking through a variety of written and oral assignments. to examine affective issues that influence the learning process such as goal setting, motivation and attitude.

The course requirements necessary for successful completion of UNIV 1100: First - Year Seminar may include the following:
- Class participation
