WHAT IS UNIV 1050: SUCCESS STRATEGIES?

UNIV 1050: Success Strategies is an elective course that introduces students to academic life at Auburn University. The purpose of this course is to assist students in becoming more successful as they make the transition from high school/junior college to college. The Success Strategies course is designed to help students gain a better understanding of the learning process and the relationship of higher education in their lives. In helping the student make the adjustment to the academic environment topics such as reading, writing, information processing, self and group assessment, personal development, critical thinking, communication, teamwork, problem solving, time management, and self management will be areas of discussion.

The objectives of UNIV 1050 are:

      1. to demonstrate understanding of the learning process and the relationship of higher education to students' lives.
      2. to develop specific learning and study skill strategies to achieve effective academic performance.
      3. to examine affective issues that influence the learning process such as goal setting, motivation and attitude.
      4. to demonstrate the ability to integrate the skills of reading, writing, and speaking through a variety of written and oral assignments. to examine affective issues that influence the learning process such as goal setting, motivation and attitude.

The course requirements necessary for successful completion of UNIV 1050: Success Strategies may include the following:

  • Class participation
  • Individual/group project
  • Oral presentation
  • Tests
  • Learning and Study Skills Inventory (LASSI)
