Dear Parents,

Welcome to Auburn University’s Learning Communities!  As you prepare your student for Auburn, we understand is an exciting and anxious experience for both of you.  Leaving for college presents the exciting challenges of learning in a new place and adjusting to new expectations.  Undoubtedly, you want the best for your child. Through research, we have found the most successful students are those who branch out, meet new people, and get involved.

Learning Communities are an easy way to become “plugged in” on campus. Because they are specially designed with freshmen students in mind, the benefits are enormous. I can definitely attest that participating in a Learning Community was one of the best experiences of my freshman year. When I first came to Auburn, I did not know a soul. Large lecture classes, tests, and group projects were not as stressful with the help of the Learning Community. I could walk into an auditorium of 200 students and recognize familiar faces.

Without the Learning Community, my freshman year would have been completely different. Many of my friendships formed as a result of this group. With so many different types and topics, every student will find their niche. I cannot emphasize how rewarding this program was for me. I have no doubt your student will have the same experience.

Applications for Learning Communities will be available in early January.  We hope you will explore with your student the different Learning Communities and contact us with any questions you have.
