Logistics is the process of managing the efficient, cost-effective flow and storage of goods, services, and related information throughout the supply chain. The goal of logistics is to ensure that the right goods and services get to the right place, at the right time, and in the desired condition, while making the greatest contribution to the firm. Key logistics activities include warehousing, transportation, inventory control, customer service, purchasing, forecasting, materials handling, and strategic planning. Auburn University has offered a major in this area for more than 30 years. Recent graduates are working with a variety of Fortune 500 firms, including: Georgia Pacific, Wal-Mart, FedEx, Nestle-Purina, Target and Kraft-Nabisco.
