The Department of Biosystems Engineering offers an option in ecological engineering as part of the bachelor of biosystems engineering degree. Ecological engineering combines basic and applied science from engineering, ecology, economics and natural sciences to design, construct, and manage sustainable ecosystems that have value to both humans and the natural environment. Therefore, this option prepares students for productive environmental related engineering careers that involve applying engineering knowledge to solve problems in natural ecological and biological systems. The bachelor of biosystems engineering degree is the only accredited degree in biosystems engineering in Alabama.
