Agriscience education prepares individuals to serve as agriscience technology education teachers in grades 6 - 12. Teachers will plan and design instruction accommodating students' learning styles, needs, abilities, interests, and backgrounds in agriculture; organize, manage, and maintain positive learning environments; advise vocational student organizations and prepare students for leadership roles and responsibilities in the community; and guide students in developing marketable job and human relations skills needed to enter the world of work. Coursework in technical agriculture will ensure teachers have a general knowledge in animal science, horticulture, agronomy and soils, agricultural economics, agricultural mechanics, forestry, plant science, environmental science, and aquaculture. Professional education coursework prepares teachers for classroom and laboratory planning and instruction, advising youth organizations, working with supervised agricultural experience programs, planning and evaluating local agriscience technology education programs, assessing student performance, and working with diverse learners. A 12-week off-campus professional internship in a selected school is required.
