Today we had a chance to talk with Chase Hoyle a sophomore in Psychology from Vincent, Alabama.
Why did you choose to become a Camp War Eagle Counselor, and what does this experience mean to you?
- I chose to become a camp counselor in order to become more involved on campus. Before becoming a counselor I wasn’t involved at all and I felt like I wasn’t contributing to the university in any significant way. This has given me an opportunity to give back to the university which has done so much for me in my time here.
Why do you feel it is important for incoming freshman to attend Camp War Eagle?
- It is important to attend Camp War Eagle first and foremost because it lets the freshmen get acclimated to the campus, and register for classes while having help in doing so. However; another reason it is important to attend Camp War Eagle is the social networks you will create. Camp is a time to meet new people and begin working on your communication skills, because communication is key to being successful in college.
What’s one thing you did that made you not miss home so much?
- In order to not miss home so much I kept a strong line of communication with my family in Vincent. I was sure to call them every couple of days just to talk or when I needed helpful advice. My mom was my lifeline during my freshman year who I turned to for academic advice, social advic or any other small thing that only a mom would know.
Auburn has many traditions, what is your favorite Auburn tradition and why?
-My favorite Auburn tradition has to be the eagle circling Jordan-Hare stadium before an Auburn football game. It shows how unified the school and its fans can become when we can come together for one event or cause. Yelling “War Eagle Hey!” as the eagle lands still gives me the goosebumps just like it did at my very first Auburn game.
